Sister Helen Prejean Speaks at Eden

Sunday, September 20, Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking and Death of Innocents, spoke. She shared how the journey has continued for her serving as spiritual director for those those on death row. Her frustration over the way the legal system works was evident when she talked about the number who have been found innocent after they have been executed by the state. She challenged the congregation to become prison visitors and get involved with those who have no hope.

In the evening she shared more at the ice cream social with the mentors and their youth. She shared about how mentors are important, and how often those who serve as mentors are the ones who are mentored by those they are mentoring. Sister Helen has the uncanny ability to take a subject that is very heavy and interject it with humor while still focusing on the need for change in the judicial system.
